Back in June, we relaunched Enigma Public with a whole new look and feel — and a much faster user experience. We’ve stayed busy since, continuing to improve and expand our features to make finding data as seamless as possible. Our engaged user community and the feedback we receive from you has played an important role in making these enhancements possible (thank you!). Here are five things Enigma Public now offers:
Rather than downloading the entire dataset as a csv (some of those files are huge!) you can now export a dataset based on the filters you’ve applied. Fear not, you can still export the whole thing if you’d prefer. Hat tip to our user community for making this suggestion. We hope you’ll keep the feedback coming.
Home in on relevant data. Limit your search to a specific collection to save time and avoid combing through unrelated results. For example, say you want to explore Microsoft, but only in the context of California. By specifying the California collection, your dataset results will be limited to the state — and better suited to your search.
Keen to know about new datasets, but less jazzed about flicking through each dataset by date updated? When you log in (you can create an account for free), a list of the three most recently updated datasets will now be included on the homepage — along with a new, personalized welcome. It’s the little things.
In one click, you can now filter a column based on a specific cell value or search across all our data based on that cell value. Simply right-click a cell in the data viewer. Take our curated Bill of Lading Summary - 2017 dataset, for example. Off the bat, we notice childhood-classic store, OshKosh B’gosh, as a shipment consignee.
We can filter the Consignee Name column at the OshKosh B'gosh cell value:
or, we can search across all datasets by the OshKosh B’gosh cell value:
Power to the right-click!
The UUID (that string of letters and numbers used to identify the data) is now called out clearly, making it easy to return to both the data and the data dictionary when using the API. With the copy function, you can also copy and paste the UUID with ease. Given the ID’s random and lengthy assortment of characters, this function is a real time saver.

Our mission is to connect people to data. We hope these new features will make our collection of data even more accessible and usable to our community — and to the population at large.
We will keep you posted as we continue to make changes or add new features. In the meantime, be sure to sign up for an account (if you haven’t already) to get access to every facet of Enigma Public. Have thoughts as to how we can improve? Feel free to reach out.
