Senior Data Engineer, Data
The Data Team ingests, transforms, enriches and connects data from all over the world. These highly diverse public datasets are fed into pipelines intertwining engineering with machine learning in order to create unique, powerful products. These products stand on their own, but can also be combined to support client engagements, which are handled by our commercial teams. Past work has included: Helping financial services organizations develop compliance practices that cut off funding to terrorists and human traffickers, Allowing top quantitative hedge funds to integrate high-caliber data into their investment decision-making, enabling pharmaceutical companies to get contaminated medications off the shelves more quickly.
In the capacity of a Senior Data Engineer you will be involved in designing and building pipelines and products using cutting edge tools. You’ll use your creativity to help craft technology to take on a variety of real-world data challenges as you work collaboratively with highly skilled and passionate people. You will have the chance to grow quickly within our rapidly expanding company. Your role may evolve as we do, but you don’t fear change; instead, you see opportunity. You possess both excellent verbal and written communication skills, as this ecosystem of engineering and data science requires a talent for communicating and connecting with technical people with different backgrounds, strengths, and skill levels.
You are passionate about emerging techniques, research and the state of the art in data processing and machine learning. You use data to inform and make decisions. You take pride in your craft and enjoy building scalable, reliable software. You’re excited about data’s impact on the world and you are curious, generous and can hustle in a competitive environment.
All Enigma engineers share a curiosity about the breadth and scope of problems that data can solve (both for individuals and organizations) and a commitment to building a platform that answers those questions.
We have high-reaching goals, and Engineering is going to solve them. Want to help?

Experience in systems design/development, framework building, search systems, large-scale data processing.
Problem solving with determination, perseverance and grit
Comfortable using the right tool for the job, rather than any sticky preference for a tool or technology
Ability to pick up new technologies and programming languages easily
Values testable, maintainable, documented code, always leaving things cleaner then when you left it
Is motivated by working on hard problems with smart people
Strong written and verbal interpersonal/communication skills.

Enigma is a rapidly growing enterprise technology company based in the Flatiron neighborhood of New York City. We are Series B funded, partnering with some of the best investors in the world: New Enterprise Associates, Two Sigma Ventures, Comcast Ventures, Crosslink Capital, American Express Ventures, and others.
Founded in 2012, Enigma was started based on the realization that there was tremendous potential in using public data to understand how the world works, but that it was untapped because the data is highly fragmented and disconnected. Enigma set out to change that by building and organizing one of the largest collections of public data in the world, and our big coming out party was winning TechCrunch Disrupts Battlefield in 2013. Our vision has remained steadfast, we want to empower people to interpret, and improve, the world around them. However, we have expanded our ability to realize this vision by combining our massive public data repository with an ecosystem of software and tools designed to link, resolve, enhance and apply data to help global-scale companies take on some of their hardest problems, ranging from preventing money laundering to ensuring patient safety.
